Tummy Time and Cousin time

Michael loves his tummy time. Often when cousin Ryan comes over to play, we will do tummy time and Ryan entertains him. These are some of my favorite photos of him on tummy time as Ryan shows him all of his tractors and machinery. This was the first time Ryan held Michael all by himself. He is great with him and will be a fabulous big brother in November to his little brother. He now brings a change of clothes to my house because Michael had a blow out on him during this picture.

Tuscaloosa Trip

On one of my last days of maternity leave, we went to Tuscaloosa to meet our friends Meredith, Emily Claire and Eli. We had not see Eli in a few months and they had never met Michael so we met there to shop and eat lunch. We went to City Cafe and got some great vegetables. We definitely got a lot of attention with 4 adults, 4 kids and 1 on the way.

4th of July

We spent the 4th at home and cousin Anna Claire came over to play. We dressed Michael in his only holiday outfit for a photo--a 6 month American flag bathing suit which was obviously way too big at the time, but we had to be festive for his first holiday!

First beach trip

When Michael was 1 month old, we went to the beach for the weekend. I know some people think I am crazy for going on a trip with a one month old, but after all that we have been through, it was a much needed vacation. We didn't take many photos, but here are a few. It rained most of the trip, so we only walked on the beach for about 10 minutes the whole time, but we were able to catch up on some sleep. He was able to meet our friend Becky (known as KiKi) and some of our best friends, the Holladays.

I am so thankful that Michael has so many great granparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins that love him so much!

Childrens hospital stay

When Michael was 3 days old, he was admitted to Childrens Hospital due to jaundice. His bilirubin was 11 when we left the hospital following his birth and we had taken him that morning to have it rechecked. It had increased to 18 overnight so we headed in for some phototherapy. He also had low blood glucose and later developed a low temperature so he also had to have a septic workup and receive 48 hours of antibiotics.

I have a whole new appreciation and compassion for the parents of my patients who have to sleep on the fold out chairs for weeks! It was definitely not fun especially 3 days after giving birth. We had excellent care, but we were so glad to come home!
