When Michael was 3 days old, he was admitted to Childrens Hospital due to jaundice. His bilirubin was 11 when we left the hospital following his birth and we had taken him that morning to have it rechecked. It had increased to 18 overnight so we headed in for some phototherapy. He also had low blood glucose and later developed a low temperature so he also had to have a septic workup and receive 48 hours of antibiotics.

Under the bili lightsI have a whole new appreciation and compassion for the parents of my patients who have to sleep on the fold out chairs for weeks! It was definitely not fun especially 3 days after giving birth. We had excellent care, but we were so glad to come home!
